Projects

One project for the whole order

A project holds every cutting job of an order: bars, pipes and profiles in 1D jobs, sheets in 2D jobs, under one name and in one file. Optimize all jobs, print one report and book the whole order out of the warehouse that every job and project shares.

Everything for one order in one place

The PROJECT card at the top of the sidebar lists the project's jobs, each with a 1D or 2D badge, its pieces and yield, and a dot that shows whether its plan is ready. Click a job to open it in the usual 1D or 2D workspace; the 1D/2D switch goes to the project's job of that kind.

1D and 2D jobs together

Any number of 1D jobs for bars, pipes and profiles and 2D jobs for sheets, under one name and in one .velmarproject file.

Details set once

The customer, units, currency and notes belong to the project, and every job in it uses them.

Optimize all jobs

One command plans every job of the project in turn, each with its own level and cutting settings.

One project report

One PDF or printout: a summary page with every job's pieces, stock used and yield, the totals and the stock to use, then each job's own plan.

Apply all to warehouse

One step takes the bars and sheets of every job's plan from the warehouse and stores every reusable remnant in it.

Quick to find

Recent jobs has its own row in the sidebar and opens in a window of its own: saved jobs, plans in History and projects, newest first, with a search box and the tabs All, 1D, 2D and Projects. A double-click opens one.

How a project works

  1. Start a project

With no project open, the top of the sidebar shows New project… and Open project…; New project… is also in the New ▾ menu. Give the project a name, and if a job with parts is on screen, Velmar Cut asks whether the project starts with it or with a new job. Open project… opens a .velmarproject file, and with Velmar Cut installed a double-click opens one too.

  2. Add the jobs

Add job offers a new 1D job for bars and profiles, a new 2D job for sheets, or an existing job file. Load example job adds the example as a new job of the project.

  3. Optimize all jobs

Velmar Cut plans the jobs one after another, each with its own level and cutting settings. If 1D jobs need automatic stock, it asks once for all of them.

  4. Report and book out

Project report… prints the whole order, and Apply all to warehouse… books it out of the warehouse in one step.

Shared warehouse

One warehouse for everything

Every job and every project uses the same warehouse. The remnants one project leaves are in stock for the next project and for every job on its own.

  • Apply all to warehouse… asks once. Then each job's current plan takes its bars and sheets from the warehouse.
  • Every reusable remnant goes back into the same warehouse, ready for the next job or project.
  • Jobs in projects and jobs on their own see the same stock, saved after every change.
  • The movement log records every change, with the job it was for.

More about the warehouse

Easy to manage

The ▾ on the PROJECT line opens the project menu, and each job has its own right-click menu. Projects open, save and autosave like jobs, and Ctrl+S saves the project.

  • Open, rename or duplicate a job
  • Move jobs up or down in the project
  • Save a job as a separate job file, or remove it from the project
  • New job in this project or New job on its own, from the New ▾ menu

Questions about projects

Can a job be in a project and also on its own?

Yes. Add job takes in an existing job file, and Save as a separate job file… in a job's right-click menu saves a job of the project as its own file.

Do the jobs in a project share their settings?

They share the customer, units, currency and notes, which belong to the project. Each job keeps its own level and cutting settings, and Optimize all jobs uses them.

What does Apply all to warehouse do?

It asks once, then takes the bars and sheets of each job's current plan from the warehouse and stores every reusable remnant in it. Each change is in the warehouse's movement log.

Can I still work with single jobs?

Yes. New job on its own starts a job outside the project, and it uses the same warehouse as every project.

How do I pass a project on?

A project is one .velmarproject file with all its jobs, so you copy or send it like any file, and with Velmar Cut installed a double-click opens it. Show in folder in the project menu opens the folder it is saved in.
