Warehouse and remnants

One warehouse for stock and remnants

Bars, sheets and remnants sit in one stock list that every job can draw from. When you apply a plan, the stock it used is booked out and the remnants worth keeping are booked in, ready for the next job.

Projects keep the jobs of an order together, and they all use this one warehouse. Apply all to warehouse… books a whole project out in one step, and its remnants are in stock for the next one.

About projects

How stock moves through a job

  1. Fill the warehouse

Enter bars, profiles, sheets and plates by hand, paste them from Excel, import a table, or read sheets and remnants from a DXF, DWG or SVG drawing.

  2. Take stock into a job

Items that match the job's material and thickness, or its profile height, are listed first. Take the number of pieces you need, and they become linked stock rows in the job.

  3. Remnants first

Remnants have the highest priority, so the optimisation uses them before it starts a new bar or sheet.

  4. Apply the plan

Apply to warehouse books out the stock the plan uses and books in the remnants it leaves. It runs once per plan, with a history snapshot before and after.

Sheet remnants in their real shape

A contour-nested sheet rarely leaves a neat rectangle. You can store the clean rectangular strips that a straight cut gives you, or the exact leftover shape with its holes, which true-shape nesting can fill later.

  • Clean sheet remnants: the rectangular strips left by straight cuts
  • Exact-shape remnants: the real leftover outline, for later contour nesting
  • Bar remnants above your minimum length, with angled ends cut square
  • Per job: ask after optimising, always add remnants, or never ask

A stock record you can rely on

Movement log

Every change in quantity is logged: what, when, how many, why and for which job. Entries are only ever added, never changed.

Backups before larger changes

The warehouse is backed up before larger changes, and the job history can restore the stock after a mistake.

Locations and notes

Record the rack or shelf, the condition or the order number. Hide items you do not want offered for now.

Shared by every job

One warehouse per data folder, saved at once after every change, so every job sees the same stock.

The warehouse is included in every edition of Velmar Cut.
